Windows Mobile and Prodding

So this has taken a bit of investigation. A customers of ours was reporting duplicate transactions arriving from one of our mobile line of business applications. After much head scratching, we’ve uncovered something that I’m sure may help others. Most transactions get fired by the user of the mobile device pressing the right hand soft key i.e : In most cases pressing this soft key, would perform the action then dismiss the form, usually by just setting the DialogResult of our current form. To create...

Sleep With

Notwithstanding Why do alarm clocks let you set the wake up time to precise minutes. i.e 6:33? I’ve just had to hold in the forward button on clock radio in the hotel room minute by minute to set an alarm for tomorrow. Surely we could live with a clock radio that at least scrolled through every 15 minutes. Or dare I say it let you go forwards and backwards. Or more radical still let you set hour and minute separately with like several buttons. Or heaven forbid a nice touch screen…. I think we need...

No here’s an idea for a nice mobile application. I’ve been needing to-do some work today from my hotel room today. A sad fact as I’m in beautiful Valencia. I took myself off for a fantastic walk this morning. I could have extended my walk for a couple more hours, had I know when my room was going to be cleaned. It would be great if I could have got a TXT/Email alert when my room was ready. What a simple Mobile LOB application. I call it Room Mate :-)...

Travels Around Newmarket with a Surface

Weighing in at 150kg, Carl and I struggled to get a Surface unit up 88 steps on Thursday. We did it! OK, it was by escalator, but it still hurt (Carl). Surface displayed all great and working to 52 of our customers

Windows Mobile and three ERPs

So I’ve been working on a Windows Mobile project that has just grown some BIG wings. Using the power of web-services I’ve just done a two way integration exercise with three different ERP systems. JD Edwards, Dynamics and Oracle. Bring it on, try that on another backend platform…

Fridge Server, Alive…

We’ll after last weekends hard drive controller failure on the Fridge server. I literally took two old PC’s apart to make one new server. We’re talking IDE drives mirrored, etc. So the prospect (and cost) of moving to a new machine I couldn’t face. The new motherboard I have, has integrated video, LAN etc. so hopefully not too much to go wrong (before separate LAN card, graphics card). Anyway, back to publishing at www.binaryrefinery.com and it feels great…...

Connecting iPhone To GoogleMail

So, after my server died, I needed a quick way to re-establish my email as I had previously been running Exchange server. My family all have email accounts on this server, so I’d thought I’d explore a few options for hosted email, that would work with our mobile phones (Windows Mobile and iPhone). Reading all the press coverage about Gmail supporting The Microsoft Air-Sync protocol, I thought I’d give this a go. I set up a couple of Gmail accounts. Then on the iPhone went through the process of setting...
