Today was one of those days that I dread. We had an all hands company meeting at the place where I work. Now, typically I think these things are a TOTAL waste of time and today was no exception.
The company I work for is in a rough business right now. Needless to say the economy hasn't been friendly to us here lately. But does that stop the corporate big-wigs from passing the kool-aid around? OF COURSE NOT.
It was an hour long session of Everything's great, we're still making money, just not as much as we'd like to. Yes we know its hard to have canceled merit raises but we still expect to have a bonus pool at the end the year.
Right sure they do. If I get a bonus this year, I'll eat my shorts. I think you'd have to be incredibly naive to consider that even a remote possibility at this point.
Then they were talking about the cost savings initiatives and how happy they were that these short-term strategic decisions were really starting to pay off..You know we have to make sure we're being cost effective blah blah blah...
Makes me think about a scene from one of my favorite movies:

The icing on top of this mound of total spin we were expected to swallow was a story one of the bigwigs related about encountering a competitor's employee on a plane. He said this individual was like you guys are awesome....Right...sure...
Do they really expect us to believe this? I mean...really....
<sigh> Is everywhere these days becoming a Dilbert punch line? I suppose to be in "corporate America" it is inescapable.
Now what will be interesting is if I get "yelled" at for posting this....FREE SPEECH BE MY PROTECTOR!!
