I went down to the Crossroads--Fell down upon my knees

Every once in a while, I am fortunate enough to find poetry in reality.   Its a rare occurence but it does happen.  And when it does, you just have to share it.

The most recent version of this occurred while I was visiting my parents in Wilmington, NC.  The developers down there just built a brand new shopping center.  Its called Mayfaire Town Centre and its basically an outdoor mall.  My parents and I went there to go to one of their favorite lunch spots The Artisan Cafe.  While we were eating lunch, my Dad started laughing.  Now he is known to do this for no apparent reason so his laughter wasn't that surprising.  The source however turned out to be quite surprising.  I said Dad..what is so funny and he points to the street sign outside the restaurant.  This restaurant is on the corner of one of the streets in Mayfaire.  So I looked up and started to laugh too.  Here's what I saw:

Now having your inspiration intersected by your destiny really isn't that funny.  What made this moment particularly poetic and amusing is that Inspiration Drive dead-ends into Destiny Way.  This sounds like an old blues tune.  I couldn't help but think immediately I need a picture of this and I wanna blog about it.

So here it is.  This is not a fake photo..If you live in Wilmington, NC you can go see this intersection for yourself.  This is real..I swear.

So---Has anyone else had their Inspiration cut off by Desiny?   I know I have.

Maybe instead of "destiny" the low ground in life is simply "mediocrity". I never want to entertain the concept of destiny in such a way that it would limit my potential.

Ultimately I find that having a truly meaningful life is a battle to stay as much apart from mediocrity as possible. Not always easy. It involves taking the reins and acting on inspiration. An uphill battle as it feels like so many out there are complacant, and would sell themselves far short of greatness.

I completely agree with you Lorin. Mediocrity is one of those human frailties that totally gets under my skin. I hate feeling mediocre. I try very hard to strive to fight against living my life in a mediocre way.

I try my best to live life in a way that suggests that I am leading my life instead of life leading me. If you start feeling as if you're only floating a long in your life, then you are doomed to flounder in mediocrity.

Glad you enjoyed the photo though. Its not every day that geeks get to wax the philosophic. :)

If you want to wax philosphic then consider whether destiny can be real or if it's just the convienient name we give a good dream realized. Perhaps worse yet it may be the word we use to legitimize, or externalize, our ambitions.

Manifest Destiny wasn't so good for the locals. . ..

I was looking for a picture and found a reality more profound then the emotion I wanted to convey. Thank you very much for this post, and I probably will "borrow" your photo.
