WHAT THE &^*^&*(^ IS AN MTP DEVICE!!!

I own a Creative Zen Vision: M. And I love it. OR...should I say I did love it until yesterday. For some reason, which I have yet to determine, when I link my Zen to my PC, my machine tries to reinstall the drivers including an "MTP device". AND FOR SOME #$#%$%^$ REASON--Its giving me an error I have yet to find a solution to. When the install attempt is complete, Windows responds with: "There was a problem installing this hardware: Creative Zen Vision: M An error occurred during the installation...

Winguardium Leviosa--Or the Wii Meets Harry Potter

I am a rabid Harry Potter fan. I am ANXIOUSLY awaiting not only the release of the upcoming film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix but I am on baited breath for the last installment of Harry's adventures, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Normally I don't play video games based on movies because typically they are less than stellar examples of game play. However, my hubby surprised me with the new Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix game the other evening for the Wii. Now for those...

Wedding Prep Continues--Dress is on order

<YAY> So the bride and I went out this evening and got my measurements for my dress. Which means--my dress is on order. <HIP HIP HOORAY> And if the bride's parents' order is any indication, I should have the dress in week or two. <cheers> Once the dress comes in, I'll get someone to take a picture and I'll post it up here. I hope the dress works and isn't too hot. :)

Date compares between App display and Database Storage

I was working on a script yesterday and came accross a challenge I hadn't encountered yet in my automation scripting adventures. The page I was working on displays the dates of various status changes for the objects under test. So for example there were two dates on the page. One associated with when the object was created and the second was when the object status changed. And seeing as I have a strong manual QA background I thought...I can validate those dates NO problem. I know where they are stored...

Wedding Preparations Continue

Yesterday was a pretty exciting day. I am a braidsmaid in a friend's wedding this fall and we girls got together last night to put together the wedding invitations etc. Oddly, my arms are sore from using her embosser on the invites but its cool to see things moving forward on the wedding. Now what may you ask does this have to do with being a geek? Well...some people may consider it geeky that they've decided to hold a 1700's period Scottish wedding instead of your typical seen in on "As the World...

Why oh why can't I cut and paste?

Yet another gripe about QTP...Why oh why can't I cut and paste calls to component actions between test cases?? The automation strategy we're using at my firm is a component method. This is where you build out resuable code modules for basic functions and then link them together within individual test cases with custom script code sprinkled about in a few places within those cases. However, what annoys me about this is some of those cases may only vary in one or two key code lines..and yet I have...

Abnoxious QTP Bug...a.k.a Fun with Table Checkpoints

Just recently I have found a quite annoying bug in the QTP interface for Table checkpoints. The situation arose when I decided to use a table check point to evaluate the data in one cell of a table in one of my company's applications presents as a work queue for the application users. And instead of relying on QTP to evaluate the status of the checkpoint, I wanted to evaluate the result of the checkpoint and report into the results set a more meaningful pass/fail criteria. My testing experience is...

Introductions

Introductions-- My name is Maryanne Sweat and I'm a geek. <Audience Response: Hi Maryanne> Currently, I am a Software Automation Engineer for a firm in North Carolina. I am working my way through the trials and tribulations of Mercury QuickTestPro and home grown VBScripts. So I suppose that makes me a geek in the professional sense. In the personal sense, I enjoy playing several video games, the least of which is World of Warcraft. I've also gotten into playing Lord of the Rings Online. I'll...
