Using the BDC and SharePoint Profile Database to Create A Company Directory Lookup
Using BDC to query our company's SharePoint profiles database ( SharedServices1_DB in our environment ) I was able to create a pretty snappy employee lookup. The data is contained in two tables, the first is the UserProfile_Full table, which contains the Basic Profile Information. The second is the UserProfileValue table. The two are linked by the RecordID Field. First things first - we designed a SQL query that would suit our needs and display the information we needed. Here is what my final query ......

Hotfix http://connect.microsoft.co... However, while installing the Hotfix, I received the following error message "Error 1324. Cleaning Inactive Profiles from SharePoint 2007
By default Office SharePoint Server 2007 imports all profiles from the Active Directory Database. This presents an issue for some companies (mine in particular ;)). After doing some searching I found an older article by Michael Bollhoefer. He tipped me off to the following LDAP filter which worked beautifully, and after running a full profile import and reindexing our SharePoint Search those old Inactive profiles were gone from the Database and the search. (&(objectCategory=perso... ......

Forefront Security and MOSS ( Exception from HRESULT: 0x80041050)
This one took some time to weed out, but found that the Forefront Scan Engine had incorrectly flagged my welcome page in my Site Directory to VirusStatus=1 and was causing an Exception from HRESULT: 0x80041050 error. Solution: Open your SQL Server Management Studio and go to the Content Database where your default welcome page is returing the error (Usually WSS_Content_[someguid]). Create a new query and run: select *from AllDocswhere (VirusStatus > 0) and (VirusStatus is not null) If you get ......

SharePoint Logs That Make Sense
A colleague recommended me Log Parser 2.2 from Microsoft Downloads. I finally gave it a whirl with some notoriously ugly SharePoint Diagnostic Logs and WOW! Get Log Parser 2.2 here. Below is an overtly simple example of the command line functionality, but I encourage you to download this powerful little guy and give him a shot. Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600](C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.C:\>logparser "select * from 'c:/logs/*.log'" -i:tsv -o:datagrid Datagrid Output from the ......

64 bit version of SharePoint Learning Kit (SLK) To Be Released
Vandana over at the SharePoint Learning Kit CodePlex site did not commit absolutely to a release date he did say this in the SLK Discussions: The 64 bit release had some hurdles in the form of license issues and then build infrastructure issues. These two have cleared now. There is one outstanding build issue Sample website validation fails during 64-bit build that has been recently reported. This turns out to be a Visual Studio issue which we have to work around to generate an error-free build. ......
