SharePoint Saturday NYC (July 27th) - The Bill Gates Campaign

Technorati Tags: SPS NYC,SharePoint Saturday Every single year for the past 3 years Tasha Scott has tried to get Bill Gates to come to SharePoint Saturday NYC. She asks the Bill Gates Foundation if they would like to speak about how they use SharePoint in the foundation. I think it would be cool if for the 5th Anniversary of one of the greatest ever SharePoint Saturdays that we could make it happen this year. I’m not sure if this is common knowledge, but this is the last year we will be using the ......

5 Years of SharePoint Saturday

Five years ago I drove down in an old Cadillac to Virginia Beach, VA from Raleigh, NC with Michael Lotter, a coworker named Nas, and Josh Carlisle. Now hundreds of events have occurred in places like Perth, Australia and Harrison, Arkansas to Toronto, Canada. Three people dreamed a dream and it came true with what they thought would be topped at a single event. As the usual post goes I remember sitting down at the speaker dinner at some pizza parlor and Joel Oleson sat next to me. I was 25 years ......

SharePoint Saturday New York City Back in Black

Just like Men In Black we’re back again for another year of SharePoint Saturday New York City. Speakers, sponsors, and volunteer submissions are open at: http://www.sharepointsaturd... If you are a local speaker and you are afraid to submit a full session, then you have the option this year to submit a lightening talk. Everyone has the ability to submit talks for full lectures until the beginning of May. We will keep sponsorships open until they are gone this year. We cannot continue to take ......

SharePoint Saturdays Some Thoughts– A Follow Up

Paul Schaeflein wrote this yesterday: http://www.schaeflein.net/b... First off Paul is awesome so do not think of this blog post as an attack it is just my opinion. So first off I was there at the first SharePoint Saturday and I knew it was happening well before it happened. I have been an attendee, volunteer, speaker, and sponsor. I have thrown thousands of dollars and effort into these events. I am sold on the idea. Michael Lotter once told me that the whole point of ......

4 Years Ago this Weekend…

In January 0f 2009 something crazy and awesome happened for me, SharePoint Saturday was born. I was a 26 year old girl from Saint Louis Missouri who was living in Olathe, KS. About 5 month prior I went to the most pivotal event in my career and life in Washington DC, the Regional SharePoint Conference, where I met Michael Lotter, Paul Galvin, Tony Lanni, Bob Fox, and Rachel Appel. Several months later I was visiting Michael at a code camp in Raleigh North Carolina and he told me we’re going to have ......

Go Crazy Folks! Go Crazy!

I was born in 1982 in March. That year the St. Louis Cardinal’s won the world series for the first time in a long time. When I was growing up my dad, my brother, and I would go to games. We would cheer and we would scream and we really got into the games. When things were bad there were two I had in life – school and the Cards. I would enter the games and feel like I had a deep connection with my team. It was great. My aunt once said that I would be buried in my backwards Cardinal’s hat. I always ......

SharePoint Saturday–3 + Years Later

Click this link: http://sharepoint.microsoft... Notice at the bottom left-hand side of the page there is a SharePoint Saturday mention with the latest events. Now send a shout out to Susan Lennon, Michael Lotter, Eric Harlan, Dux Raymon Sy, Kris Wagner, Josh Carlisle, and every other person who put in some form of effort to the SharePoint Saturday brand. We all worked hard for 3 years or more organizing, volunteering, speaking, sponsoring, or spreading the word ......

After the Event: SharePoint Saturday NYC

So about a year ago Michael Lotter handed over the reigns to SharePoint Saturday New York City to Jason Gallicchio and myself. I had no real idea what this meant, because each city you run an event in is different. You have to learn the rules about that city. Kansas City I had to fight for speakers, sponsors, attendees, and volunteers. What I quickly learned about New York City is that I have a tiny amount of space and more people who would like to use it than I had the room for. If you look at the ......

Planning an Event–SPS NYC

I bet some of you were wondering why I am not going to any events for the most part in June and July (aside from volunteering at SPS Chicago). Well I basically have no life for the next 2 months. We are approaching the 11th hour of SharePoint Saturday New York City. The event is slated to have 350 to 400 attendees. This is second year in a row I’ve helped run it with Jason Gallicchio. It’s amazingly crazy how much effort this event requires versus Kansas City. It’s literally 2x the volume of attendees, ......

SharePoint Saturday NYC–Sponsors and Volunteers

As I did last year I am helping out with the organization of SharePoint Saturday New York City. We already figured out who will be speaking and will be posting the information within the next few weeks. We still have a few sponsorships open at http://www.sharepointsaturd... If you are interested we have two booths left at the Enterprise level. We have no Standard sponsorships left. All other sponsorships, such as Office 365, Foundation, and Prize are left over if anyone is interested download ......

SharePoint Saturday the Conference–DC

If you guys haven’t heard there is a major conference going on in DC called SharePoint Saturday the Conference. The event will take place on August 11th to 13th in Annandale, Virginia. This is a great conference to speak at last year they had over 900 attendees and 90 sessions. If you guys are interested in speaking or sponsoring please go to http://www.spstc.org. If you have any questions they have an email address on the event site. A lot of the big name SharePoint people you expect to attend SharePoint ......

TechEd NA Deep Thoughts

I used to be envious of those people who could go to every conference. I would look on twitter and I would watch the streaming keynotes. I wondered how can I get to these events? Somehow I did it I’ve been to SharePoint Conference, The Expert’s Conference, and Best Practices Conference plus 31 or so SharePoint Saturdays. So now what? Well I finally got to go to TechEd in Atlanta as a HOL instructor. It’s kind of nice not speaking for once and just helping other people out. I don’t have as much pressure ......

SharePoint Saturday LA–Free Conference

There are four really cool national board members for Women in SharePoint, Cathy Dew, Nedra Allmond, Michelle Strah, and and Lori Gowin. Nedra is running Women in SharePoint West and she just also happens to be helping out with SharePoint Saturday LA. If you guys had no idea that California also has SharePoint Saturdays then you were wrong. There is a SharePoint Saturday on April 2nd in the greater Los Angeles Area. If anyone is interested in the vicinity please visit this site: http://www.sharepointsaturd... ......

South Florida Code Camp and Other Events

My grandmother wanted me to make her a video when she heard I got MVP in SharePoint Server of one of my sessions. I decided I haven’t visited in two years, so maybe I can do an in person session. I googled around and found South Florida Code Camp, which will be Saturday, February 12th. I will be doing a session at 9:50 in the morning on Silverlight just for my grandmother and whoever shows up. Here is the link for more information: http://www.fladotnet.com/co... One National Team One Event – SharePoint Saturday Kansas City

I wasn’t expect to run an event from 1,000 miles away, but some stuff happened you know like it does and I opted in. It was really weird, because people asked why are you living in NJ and running Kansas City? I did move, but it was like my baby and Karthik didn’t have the ability to do it this year. I found it really challenging, because I could not physically be in Kansas City. At first I was freaking out and Lee Brandt, Brian Laird, and Chris Geier offered to help. Somehow I couldn’t come the day ......

So somehow I got involved again with SPS KC without actually living there. I’m going to travel down get some bbq and enjoy the scenery. Right now we have registration open at http://www.sharepointsaturd... There is also a sponsorship form too if anyone is still interested in sponsoring we will close it down in about a week. It’s going to be a lot of fun and who knows the next time I get to the area. It could be years or months again until I venture back. Hopefully I’ll see you all there. Technorati ......

Best Practices Conference, Women in SharePoint, and Live Blogging

I’ve been quiet lately for many reasons, such as SharePoint Saturday New York and heavy amounts of travel due to funerals and family events and life. So I think a lot of you have been wondering what is this Women in SharePoint thing? How does it fit into the community? Well, there are five of us, Kathryn Birstein, Cathy Dew, Lori Gowin, Karuana Gitamu, and myself. A year ago from this past June I wrote a blog post how I felt being a woman in SharePoint. It feels great to live in this era, because ......

SharePoint Saturday New York City – Event Number 3

I am organizing my third SharePoint Saturday event – New York City. We are going to have 9 tracks with the capacity for 300 people to show up to the event. Right now we have about 150 registered for the event. There will be a search track, Mindsharp training track, developer, architect, end user, special interest, and administration tracks. It will be a great event with such speakers as Errin O’Connor, Natalya Vokrensenskaya, Joel Oleson, Geoff Varosky, Paul Swider, and others…To see the full list ......

As Glados would say at the end of Portal “I’m still alive…”. I am around, but I’m just not posting as frequently as I should. I am trying to get acclimated to my new job, planning SharePoint Saturday New York City and Women in SharePoint plus trying to lead a normal life doing normal chores and hang out with my boyfriend. What does this mean? Well I’m trying to cut back to one or two events a month, which will include Heartland Developer Conference, Best Practices Conference, SPS Ozarks, SPS NYC ......

SharePoint Saturday Huntsville in need of Speakers and Sponsors…

So I’ve been to events with Cathy, Lori, and Laura. They are good people. Honestly, the best event I ever attended was SharePoint Saturday Ozarks. I had a crappy week and I got there the actual day of the event. Hanging out with the three of them plus Joy made everything so much better. Then there was devLink and SharePoint Saturday DC and a few other events sprinkled into the mix. I was going to attend Birmingham but the timing was bad and other things occurred. Now I have the opportunity to attend ......

Happy Birthday SharePoint Saturday!

It was one year ago that SharePoint Saturday kicked off in Virginia Beach. Michael Lotter, Susan Lennon, and Kevin Israel thanks for creating one of the most successful events around the world. What started out as one or two events has multiplied into over a dozen events and then some. Thank you so much (especially Michael and Susan) for all that you have given to the rest of us. I wouldn't know most of you guys out there without them. It's been an awesome year. Keep up the good work ......

Three Weeks…

So I did it. I moved, I ran a SharePoint Saturday, and I attended a wedding. I can’t say everything went smoothly in the process, but I will say it all worked out for the best. I started out my stressful adventure a couple months ago with packing and changing everything over to the new address. Here is my account as best as I can describe it to you guys… I woke up on Friday, December 11th at about 6 am after sleeping on the floor with my boyfriend. The mover’s came at about 7 am to pack the pod. ......

Perspective…

Every time around this year we have about 800 blog posts on how great or how horrible or what happened in the year or the decade. The decade is closing and I will say this that it was one of my favorites. I graduated from high school, college, and I started my first real job. I was active in LGBT rights clubs, Interfaith Clubs, .Net User Groups, SharePoint User Groups. I lead the planning of 2 successful SharePoint Saturday events. I attended these events: MOSS Camp St. Louis (2008 and 2009) Tulsa ......

SP2010 Knock Out Edition: What You Need to Know…

So I set out on a quest to install a SharePoint 2010 VM with Bob Davis, one of our 101 instructors for SharePoint Saturday Kansas City and a Co-Leader of the KC Office Geeks. We started around 5 pm and ended around 11 pm. Everything that could possible go wrong went wrong in triplicate. Here is a list of things you need to know: Turn on Virtualization in your bios: Bob did not have virtualization turned on in his bios, so the virtual machine I had stubbed out did not work. You need to make sure that ......

The Last UG Meeting…

I don’t think it’s fully hit me yet. This past Thursday was the last user group meeting of the year and the last meeting with me present as leader. Next week I am meeting with about 4 or 5 people to hand over the KC Office Geeks. Every so often I look back and reflect on where I have come in the past few years and how I got to this point in time. We have 177 people on the mailing list and an average from 15-20 people at each meeting. When Jeff handed off the group to me we were average 3 people per ......

Major Conference Cherry Popped…

So you are going to an event with 7,000 people that have similar interests to learn about a product that you have a vague idea about…I was excited prior to the event and nervous. I had a very bad week before the event. Every piece of technology that I brought with me to St. Louis broke. I had little sleep trying to get my code done and my technology to the point I started out with that Monday. Finally by Friday I was beat and hung out with my friends…On Saturday I went to Coders and everything after ......

SharePoint Saturday Kansas City Officially December 12th

In the mix of things we were the 2nd SharePoint Saturday event and I think we can do far better. I wanted to have a free conference with 2010 content that people didn’t have to pay for if they couldn’t afford SPC. So we are now finally confirmed for Saturday, December 12th at Johnson Country Community College Regnier Center. This event will be bigger (250 is the cap) and far better. I have a lot of good people helping me out including Brian Laird, Kevin Huges, and Bob Davis. St. Louis is working ......

Kansas City Office Geeks Meeting this Thursday

This month Howard Davy will be discussing SharePoint Designer Workflows. He was one of the volunteers for SharePoint Saturday Kansas City. He helped orchestrate the event with me and a ton of other people. As his day job he’s a SharePoint Trainer, so this should be a really good presentation. If you guys are in Kansas City and find SPD a little scary. I would show up just to see what it actually can do. Becky…Who is Becky?

My name is Becky Isserman. Everyone in the Kansas City Community knew me as Becky before they even knew who MOSSLover was on the web. I didn’t even buy the domain until last year in April after the first event I attended, STL MOSS Camp. It’s really weird how much I’ve done and how far I’ve come since then. I swear I was ten times more nervous that first time. Who wouldn’t be with there dad in the room? When I was at DC I got up and I spoke and I fumbled ten times less. I can see the pay back for ......

Silverlight 3.0 and Extended Databinding with SharePoint Controls

I don't really have a break until after SharePoint Saturday D.C. Once the break occurs I am going to upgrade my VM with .Net 3.5 (finally get it to stick). Then I am going to write a WCF webservice that will pull data from profile services and search. Plus maybe some image library information for fun. I want to build a ton of controls using Silverlight as the front end and SharePoint as the back end. Check back here in about a month or so for some interesting experiments. I will probably post these ......

SharePoint Saturday Kansas City - My Day of Endurance

For anyone new I met yesterday I probably don't remember your name I am really sorry. You see yesterday I was pushing myself to the limit in a couple of weeks and my body was not all too happy. When I got home I watched an episode of House with my boyfriend and called it a night sometime around 11 pm. I never go to bed before midnight and I was exhausted and passed right out until 12 pm the next day. Today I am going to be taking it easy, so I can start coding again on Monday. Exhaustion and Some Virginia Beach

I am a little tired, so I'm not counting this as my official post. I think I need some time and some sleep to process. I did get 6 1/2 hours of sleep last night, which is the most I can say for last week's total. So anyway....I had no idea what to expect from this event. It is my third full on SharePoint Event. I am a code camp nut, so I usually end up meeting all kinds of .Net and SharePoint people. I would have to say this was one of my favorite events. I'm not so sure it can beat the Regional ......

SharePoint Saturday

So it looks like the first SharePoint Saturday event will be this weekend. I have most of my demos and a few slides thrown together and ready. They have about 200 people signed up for the event. They had to cut off registration. I hope that we can get nearly as many people in Kansas City as they have in Virgnia Beach. I helped out a little with KC Day of Dot Net, but it's definitely not the same. I feel sympathetic for Lee Brandt. So we have a registration page and a word document that people can fill out to submit speaker abstracts.
