4 Years Ago this Weekend…

In January 0f 2009 something crazy and awesome happened for me, SharePoint Saturday was born. I was a 26 year old girl from Saint Louis Missouri who was living in Olathe, KS. About 5 month prior I went to the most pivotal event in my career and life in Washington DC, the Regional SharePoint Conference, where I met Michael Lotter, Paul Galvin, Tony Lanni, Bob Fox, and Rachel Appel. Several months later I was visiting Michael at a code camp in Raleigh North Carolina and he told me we’re going to have...

SharePoint Saturday–3 + Years Later

Click this link: http://sharepoint.microsoft... Notice at the bottom left-hand side of the page there is a SharePoint Saturday mention with the latest events. Now send a shout out to Susan Lennon, Michael Lotter, Eric Harlan, Dux Raymon Sy, Kris Wagner, Josh Carlisle, and every other person who put in some form of effort to the SharePoint Saturday brand. We all worked hard for 3 years or more organizing, volunteering, speaking, sponsoring, or spreading the word...

South Florida Code Camp and Other Events

My grandmother wanted me to make her a video when she heard I got MVP in SharePoint Server of one of my sessions. I decided I haven’t visited in two years, so maybe I can do an in person session. I googled around and found South Florida Code Camp, which will be Saturday, February 12th. I will be doing a session at 9:50 in the morning on Silverlight just for my grandmother and whoever shows up. Here is the link for more information: http://www.fladotnet.com/co... In the upcoming months I plan...

Exhaustion and Some Virginia Beach

I am a little tired, so I'm not counting this as my official post. I think I need some time and some sleep to process. I did get 6 1/2 hours of sleep last night, which is the most I can say for last week's total. So anyway....I had no idea what to expect from this event. It is my third full on SharePoint Event. I am a code camp nut, so I usually end up meeting all kinds of .Net and SharePoint people. I would have to say this was one of my favorite events. I'm not so sure it can beat the Regional...

Why I Try and Help the Community...

So some of you have no idea who I am. I don't even know who I am sometimes. What self respecting 26 year old knows who they are. Anyway, I moved to Kansas City about a year and a half ago and I was depressed when I moved. I had just started to get involved with the St. Louis Jewish Community. I was going to go to start school again, but my job basically was we want to move you to Kansas City and we don't really have other options. I knew how it went. I was 24 years old. I had to move. My boyfriend...

SharePoint Saturday Call for Speakers and Attendees

There will be an all day SharePoint Event called SharePoint Saturday on Saturday, January 10th from 8 am to 6:30 pm at the ATC in Virginia Beach. If you wish to volunteer as a speaker or just want to sign up to attend the event go to http://www.sharepointsaturd... I'm already signed up to present on Cheap and Easy Wildcard Search. As most SharePoint Nation! Events it should be awesome. According to the site if you attend you have the chance to win a Zune or a Mindsharp Training Course. So as...

Interesting SharePoint Fact for the Week...

That's right I didn't forget...This one has to deal with the Edit Form in a list...I wanted to just re-iterate something that I have learned. If you are working with an application push it to the _layouts directory and do not post web parts on this page. I have heard Michael Lotter and a few other people say that this is best practice. I hope that this will suffice for the week. I will be posting Raleigh Code Camp Slides and other items once I get my new 1 tb hard drive and enclosure working with...

Stepping Back

I'm taking two steps back and one step forward. As some of you know I had a not so great last week due to taking on way too much in life. This past year has been my let's get active and out of the house year. It ended up becoming the "Becky Cannot Say No" year. I am one of those people who has a philosophy that involves giving yourself at least 1 hour to do something absolutely brainless per day. For me if I don't get that one hour I start to have issues in my life. So from last week on I am giving...

No matter what a Developer tells you, you cannot declare a site column lookup field without the list guid...

I wrote a couple features with some list definitions, site columns, and a content type with a feature receiver. It was the first real feature that I ever wrote. I built a presentation on features, but that was all research and books. I did the presentation once, but I never really knew much about features. This time around I did not use STSDev or VSEWSS. I knew what the DDF file was and the Manifest.xml from my SPS 2003 days, but was very rusty. I think that this week definitely helped me with my...

Day of Dot Net Needs the SharePoint Lovens

So finally Kansas City gets a Code Camp and we get an entire SharePoint Track (so I hope) on Saturday, December 6th. I am hoping that we can get together at least 5 sessions. So far Todd Kitta (the MOSS Gone Wild Guy) has offered up his services and he will be bringing his family (including the new baby I hope). So what I ask from you guys is that if you want to speak and you are local or not even local drop me an e-mail. Kansas City needs love too. We have Barbecue, the Nelson Atkins Art Museum,...

Disaster Recovery Book and Stuff...

Thanks everyone for the encouragement...I have about three more chapters and John has about one more to write for the book (yeah I'm the slacker). At the end of the weekend early next week I'm hoping to make that two chapters and then the week after than only one...It's coming along pretty nicely. If anyone is interested in pre-ordering here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/Share... I know...

Hectic Week

I started my new job at B&R Business Solutions this week and met some pretty good people (Nas Ali, Chris Regan, and Nick Gallo). It was a lot of days of bad sleep due to some early on health issues with my boyfriend and then later on me falling asleep at odd hours. It was definitely a change of pace, but I liked it. I was actually surrounded by SharePoint People. I felt like I was not a Klingon working on Earth (for lack of a better analogy). It feels like this job will stick for a while. I also...

Some Trips and Some Changes

I know I have been really silent and I am not usually this silent. I have not really had a substantially awesome blog entry in a while. Well that is due to some trips, some changes, some book writing, and some life events. First off here is my Flickr Url http://www.flickr.com/photo... so I don't have to embed a ton of pictures. My New York Pictures will be up tomorrow or the next day, but the Maine/New England ones are already up. You can see the beauty of Acadia National Park. I would...

Hartford Code Camp..Big Trip in T-1.5 Days...

For those of you guys in the area the 1st Hartford Code Camp is Saturday from 9 am to 5pm at New Horizons Learning Center in Bloomfield, CT. I will be there and speaking about basics in SharePoint Development. Here is the link for the Code Camp to sign up: http://ctdotnet.org/CodeCam... I'm pretty excited, because this is my first trip to New England. I decided to fly into Hartford around 11 am on Thursday and rent a car, so that I could drive all the way up to Bar Harbor, Maine and back down...

The Big Trip: My Plans for the Connecticut Code Camp

I am by no means a world traveler like Joel Oleson. My goal in life is to hit as many countries as I can and try hit every single state in the U.S. So when I saw this add for the Hartford Code Camp (http://www.ctdotnet.com/) I signed up. I have never been to New England (that I can remember) in my adult lifetime. I know that in my entire life I have never seen Rhode Island, Massachussetts, New Hampshire, or Maine. So I made a decision this week that I am going to come in on Thursday in the afternoon...

SharePoint Lovers Code Camp in the Lou

If anyone is interested in a MOSS code camp and they can get to St. Louis on April 5th they will be hosting a MOSS Camp Event. I signed up to present, but I'm not sure if I'll get picked. I want more experience and this event looks really cool. Plus I go to St. Louis once a month, so I figure I will get to see my best friend who I am missing this weekend. After all I have at least two or three extra places I could stay if for some reason I couldn't stay at my parents place. Here is the link for anyone...
