I am considering opening an account with Webhost4life.com. Does anyone have any experience with them? Anyone have any other advice? I need a good Windows hosting company where I can be use ASPNET apps like DNN or dasBlog without any issues.

Update: I did go with Webhost4life, and they were great at the beginning.  Their support was friendly and helpful, and my site was fast.  That was then, this is now.  It seems in this short time, they have gone to absolute crap.  Their support appears to be all non-technical people in India.  After 3 or 4 days if your support issue is still open they will get an "engineer" on it (that is, apparently, someone who actually knows what ASP.Net is).  I am now receiving the worst service I have ever received from ANY webhost over the years.  I would never recommend Webhost4life for anyone, in fact I would strongly warn you against it.

Webhost4life was the biggest web hosting mistake I have made.  So much so that I am still prepaid through a couple more months, but I am moving now anyway.

I've had nothing but great experience with them, for over 3 years now. They have responded quickly and well the few times I needed, and they've kept me up and running nicely. That said, I have seen a few complaints from others, but in my experience (I tried several other hosters before them) there is no one that is always perfect (even some of the far more expensive and well-known hosts have issues). So for what you pay (and more), I highly recommend them.

Been using them for my site for last 2 years, and got second IP for friends site and I haven't noticed any downtime in that time frame.

Plus the unlimited bandwidth is always a good thing.

I used to say the same things as Paul and Justin, but I have changed my mind about WebHosting4Life. As long as you do not have a popular site, they are great. But once you start to pull in some visitors, things change. I have about 2000 unique visitors a day and do about 4GB in bandwidth a month (mostly compressed RSS) and they just shut down my site without any warning stating that my site was using 100% of the Machine it was on. After I explained that I was only using .Text, they brought my site back up, and then said they would move the site to a new box (the one I was on was an old one, since I have been with them almost 3 years now). Then, the guys at CodeBetter.com had the same problem, but were told to find another provider (WH4L just shut them down, with no warning). So, unlimited bandwidth is very misleading, because they do not let you stream any media (mp3, wmv, etc), and don't want you using much CPU time, so that is how they limit your bandwidth. My contract is up with them in Sept. and I'm looking for another host. WH4L was great for a while, but like all good things, it doesn't last.

You should check out the Webhostingtalk forums for information as well.

I've also heard experiences like Don's above.

The two times when I ran into performance/downtime problems, I submitted a trouble ticket and they moved me to a new server, and everything was fine. Also gave me a free month of hosting. Tech support has always been very quick.
HOWEVER, my one compaint is that they sneak in a $10 "renewal fee" on top of hosting charges when you renew. Maybe this was mentioned somewhere when I signed up (but I don't remember seeing it), but I cannot find any mention of a renewal fee in any of their online materials or terms & conditions.

I paid the $10 and get my 600MB bump up to 3GIG, I have no complaints =)

WH4L is the best hosting company out there.

I switched to WH4L in January because I wanted a Windows-based site and WH4L was recommended. Well, their own web site it terrible. For example, they refer to a "Control Panel", yet you never get to any page by that name. The software they have for uploading files would not run on my machine. I have 4 domain names for different hobbies. Not until after I paid and got set up did I find out that I could not aim my 4 domain names at different folders without paying more. (My prior host did not charge.) Then I tried to transfer a domain name to WH4L. They charged my credit card over 2 weeks ago, but still have not transferred it. On their Help page, they list an 800# to call for Help, but when I call that number, they say they can only provide help for hosting, not for domain names, yet the 800# is shown on the domain name help page. When I call the 480#, I can never get through to anyone. When I emailed them, they did not respond.

I saw where someone else warned about getting blindsided with a $10 "renewal" fee. At least I won't have to worry about that. I won't renew.

Do NOT go near this provider - despite stating that email is included as are multiple domains the truth is that only the first domain is free for email and all other domains can only be attached at root level. If you want to attach at subdirectory then a charge of $15yr is made. They are completely unwilling to state what else will be charged for.

I have very good experience so far with webhost4life. The reason I went with them was their customer testimonials at http://webhost4life.com/testimonial.asp

I havn't see any other host with these kind of testimonial on a daily basis.

Lucky enough, I did got the same excellent service from them.

As far as the $15 fee, I got the info upfront from their sales, so that didn't bother me much.

I have benn VERY happy with them, specially the repsonsiveness of their support.
The control panel IS clear and easy to use. It had some bugs but if you submit a ticket, you usually get answers in the next 2-4 hours.
I had such TERRIBLE experiences but other providers before, I am quite happy with these.
Plus, I had the feeling to get more than I thought, because I realized I could also setup a Sharepoint without additional fee.

Before I was with SeekDotNet, and I had to wait 48 hours (+ angry emails) before getting any answers.

Their customer service is one of the worst in the industry. If they owe you money on commissions, good luck collecting.

Real bad problems are ignored and all the decision makers are always travelling abroad.

Everyone with problems should submit complaints to the California Attorney General's office.

Having problems at the moment! they advertise you can have multiple DNN installations but don't tell you you have to pay $15 per year per domain pointed at that installations

I've used these guys for about 5 years nows with about 6 different accounts. Can't say I have ever had any real problems. In fact, they dealt with requests for the install of specialist com objects on my basic account very well.

I think for what you pay, you get an awful lot. But if u are going to have a site that will get alot of bandwidth.... you NEED to get dedicated hosting.

Webhost4life ruined my business.
They took my site down without prior notice and got it up only after 23 hours.

In the meanwhile all my adwords campaign went into garbage and I lost huge sums of money.

Don't ever ever ever put your money at webhost4life. They are the most horrible people I'ev ever met.

Webhost4life is working great for me and so far so good. Havn't have any downtime, but I am on the Premium plan. I figure that's more suitable to my business then a $5 plan. I love their support service, they are always fast and knowledgeable. I would recommand webhost4life to anyone.

I have had nothing but issues with them. Their technical staff does not understand how to respond to direct questions.

I upgraded to their Advanced plan with a Dual P4 3.0GHz Xeon with 6GB RAM and they put me on an AMD 3200 with 1/2 GB RAM without telling me, yet charging me the same money.

My server has been down at least 6 hours today as well, and is not back up yet. Adwords? Yup, lost a lot of money there too!

Stay as far away from them as you can...utterly useless.

The support is asleep at the wheel. If you have any real problems they go into hiding. If you escalate an issue, they ignore you. My advice is to stay away. There has to be someone better out there.

You can't even host anything on a 1/2gig of ram and I don't see anywhere on webhost4life advertising 6gig of ram.

Yes I am a big fan of Webhost4life and I have many sites with them and I am very satisfy.
I just want to point out that it wouldn't make any sense for webhost4life to put up a 1/2 gig machine when they can put 4 to 6 gig and host much much more sites.

Webhost4life is there everytime I needed support. I would definately recommand them.

I've been with WH4L for about three years and have been very impressed with their service. These bad comments are making me jittery though and I think I'll look for a backup site to be ready to switch to if there's a problem.

I have used 1&1 shared hosting (UK) and they are absolutely horrendous - do not use them under any circumstances.

I have read very good things about crystaltech.com but am yet to try them myself.

I have been on WH4L for about 2 years, and while the started out OK, they are now horrible.

If you need a database to back end your site DO NOT use these guys. I was running the content management system Joomla which back ended on to a MySQL DB and this would frequently time out due to simple queries taking in excess of 30 seconds to execute, and this was off a vanilla install. After spending over 2 weeks going back and forth between support, being shifted between different app-pools and still getting no where I had had enough..

They might be fine for a plain html site, but anything more complex than that, run away.

Other pet peeves.
+Hidden fees everywhere
+Support do not know what they are talking about, in particular if you are using a linux based service.

I was with a different host for 4 years and they suddenly went belly up on me. I had to scramble to find a new host fast and WH4L was recommended. I have used them for 10 months and have been very happy, until I went to renew today and found out about that $10 a year renewal fee adder. That really stinks to me. It is not the money so much as it is an unetical way to add money to the price. You will note they do not even mention it when showing you the $5.95 a month rate. Poor business pratice. But, I will stay with them as I doubt I can do any better elsewhere. What liffle tech support I have needed was fast, accurate, and courteous. I am a very basic user with nothing fancy on my web site.

I cannot imagine service being worse than the one webhost4life provides: they don't monitor the websites - they don't know whether your website is up or down, as they have no software to monitor it; they don't know whether their server is up to the capacity or not - they have no way to monitor it. So you can imagine how "smoothly" you website runs on their server....

I also have over 3 years experience with WH4L, and I must agree with Ashley. It does appear that their level of service has degraded over the past year or so. After some not-so-scientific testing, I believe that the problem lies on their database servers (which I guess can be expected when they offer 2 free SQL, mySQL & SQL express database to each customer). They recently (2/19/08) sent a message that they would no longer be supporting SQL Express after March 19th, so maybe service will improve in the near future. Here's the text of the message they sent:

"After extensive research and monitoring, it has been determined that the resource used by SQL express engine causes a dramatic performance decrease for the server. Futhermore, it creates security issues for the server. Unfortunately, we are forced to discontinue support for SQL Express database engine on
March 19, 2008. For all customers using SQL Express engine, please move your database to a SQL 2005 environment. The easiest way is to use "attach" function through the "control panel -> database -> mssql admin" section to attach your .mdf and .ldf file. If you need further assistance, please feel free to contact our help desk support staff. Thank you."

I'll be sticking around a little longer to see if things improve (fingers crossed), but if they do not, I guess I too will be in the market for a new hosting provider...

I am very disappointed with Web Host 4 Life. They used to be good and now they are not. There support is awful. They have no idea what I'm talking about and when I ask them a question they do not answer the question I ask. I have even e-mailed the ceo and did not get a response back. I have had horrible experience with webhost4life. Actually no one at the staff that reads the support tickets actually understands what I say. After hosting for 3 years there, the service quality has deteriorated (very slow loading speed) and I waste lots of time re-submitting information on tickets that i had already thoroughly explained. Our company is moving all sites for clients out of webhost4life and I am actively telling all my tech contacts to stay away from that company. It is inefficient, low quality, and in the end we end up paying more with our time and nerves than we save by cheaper hosting. Cheap is expensive!

I have to say that when I first started with them (webhost4life) they were good, but they are really going downhill fast. Today my site is down for 5 hours (and counting) with a SQL problem. Their "live" help is useless and the ticket has not been responded to in 3 hours. Do NOT go with this company, I'm looking around for another hosting company.

Dudes, this service is so bad. They have morons for technical support. I can't count the number of times my site went down. It's a huge hassle change servers but they're driving me there. They don't seem to understand plain english. They put you on a server with the client from hell who must stream porno movies because the server keeps falling over. Bad move, find someone else.

We have been using Webhost4Life for a while. Initially their service has been fine but as of late our website has slowed down substantially. I asked their customer representative they replied that their server has been pretty stressed lately.

Our website keeps on getting offline which translates to huge volume of confused visitors.
We are currently looking for alternatives. Does anyone have a suggestion?

They were great until recently, now the way they sahre IIS is really awful, and I get all sorts of errors. Recently, you cant run applications in a folder, because it uses the Web.config file in the root.

the way they sahre the IIS for the cheap accounts is really messed up somehow.
