Is it just me, or is config section encryption not worth the clicks it takes to implement?
I'm on an ASP.Net 2.0 course at the moment - and one of the subjects we covered is the encryption of config file sections... In an environment where developers have less and less code to write, by using these new fangled 'features' I can very much see the kind of person using the config file section encryption would also think compile on demand for a source directory is a good idea on a server... If I cut to teh chase - if your web.config file is compromised and someone can see the contents they ......

Arrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhh - Server's gone down...
Well I'll be jiggered - I turned my back for 5 minutes and my dedicated server went down! Right royal pain in the backside! But what have I learnt from this: Don't keep anything on your C: drive. Services, assemblied, aspx source, config files etc - if your site is lost and a reinstall of the OS is the last option - it can make the difference between an hours outages and days... Don't treak network card settings you don't understand - after getting the server back, some things had changed and I tried ......

IRemembered - Why I'm doing it!
