Resolve "Tools Install Dir in registry is missing" and Remote Tools issues on Windows 7 (64-bit) system after Platform Builder is installed by exporting [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Platform Builder] from an 32-bit system, changing "Program files" entries to "Program Files (x86)" or create REG file with content listed below and import into the registry.

Hi Doug, I liked your solution here but it made me think about a perhaps better solution. I didn't like the idea to copy this key, so I decided to try to simply create a registry link (like you can create file links) to the right key. That way if devenv.exe (or another 32bit app) changes values in the wow64 section, the link simply points to the correct location.

So I used the regln tool by Antoni Sawicki to create the link where the 64bit application would look for the registry keys.

To do this: Download the tool at http://www.tenox.tc/out/#regln (make sure you get the x64 version)

Run this command:
regln-x64.exe "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Platform Builder" "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Platform Builder"

*NOTE*: My machine does not have Platform builder for Windows Compact 7 yet. This will probably conflict if you are trying to have 7 also. In that case, I would try to link specifically the 3.0, 6.0 keys separately. Readers, let me know what you think.
