Microsoft Newsgroup Research

In introducing people about using google to probe internal networks today, AlexTheBeast stumbled upon an odd site... http://netscan.research.mic... Although he found it accidently, google shows that this site has been discussed in the past. Obviously, the purpose of this project is to explore the structure and activity within the Usenet. If you enjoy using data in strange ways, this little site might be something in which you want to invest some time...

Mariah's Fake Abs

I have no idea why I find this so interesting... but here are pictures of mariah's airbrushed abs. One more reason I wouldn't mind being rich. Wanna do a zillion sit-ups? Nah, just call in the airbrush guy to give me muscles

Arcade Games Now

I had a few minutes to kill for a really random reason tonight so I dropped by a local bowling alley in search of some games. Two quarters, dig-dug, and a street-fighter clone killed an hour or so... A couple of new games were really fun. One you act like a cop with a gun... and the machine actually detects as your body moves side to side and up and down. If you bend down, you actually can hide behind things. Move to the side and you can hide behind doors. Once you get over the odd feeling of jumping...

Funny Marketing Technique with Javascript

I just happened upon this funny little advertising trick. Webpage: http://www.chitterlings.com... The webmaster is using javascript to make his viewers believe they must order by “today!” However, the javascript will change the date every day for eternity. Order Now. // Courtesy of SimplytheBest.net (http://simplythebest.net/i... var mydate=new Date() var theYear=mydate.getFullYear() var day=mydate.getDay() var month=mydate.getMonth() var daym=mydate.getDate()...

Happy 4th of July

I'll have burgers and dogs on the grill... and a bunch of friends sharing adult beverages with me. I hope everybody is enjoying the long weekend. Happy 4th of July!

Geeks With Blogs Question

Do you guys submit your personal GWB RSS feed to submission sites... or is the main GWB feed submitted everywhere already anyway? Please comment.

Smart Phone but Dumb Salesmen

After reading Jeff's recent cell phone buying pain, I decided to post my latest cell phone experience. Recently my company decided to purchase us a couple of different types of smart phones. We buy different hardware for us to test, experiment, program, and hack all the time. I've never even really used my palm so I wasn't too excited that a smart phone was a must-have for me... until my cell phone got washed in my pants pocket this weekend. Suddenly, I am very interested in getting a new phone any...

MSN Desktop Search - Suggestions for the Development Team

I love and hate the MSN Desktop Search Tool. The search stuff is great; however, the ability to use this as a quazi-command-line or run box is what really wets my whistle. As much as I like it, the fact that it doesn't run completely like the run command is painful! I was recently whining about this in the hive and gave this example: For example, this will open a command box(dos-prompt) =cmd However, this will not open the display properties... ="rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL desk.cpl,,0"...

I question my faith... Torrent for OSX -> Intel Version

Since grade school, I have not liked Apple computer systems. Over the last few years, I have been forced into conditions where I had to learn Apple systems... and I still wasn't impressed. OSX is better, but nothing that would make me want to switch platforms. Why then am I so anxious to try to install OSX on some of the intel boxes in my test network? I do not typically go torrent hunting... but for some reason, I would just love to see OSX running one of my previous microsoft boxes. Would I use...

"Hello World" with Great Thanks

I am addicted to tutorials, tweaks, recipes, howtos--whatever you want to call them. I can't learn enough new skills and tricks. A whore I am. I typically pass on the information I find to friends and family through email; however, it is obvious that a blog is the better media for such communications. While I am often happy learning new tricks in my specialized computer life, I enjoy sharing more general information. Analogy warning -- I would love to learn how to do surgery; however, learning how...
