Smart Phone but Dumb Salesmen

After reading Jeff's recent cell phone buying pain, I decided to post my latest cell phone experience. Recently my company decided to purchase us a couple of different types of smart phones. We buy different hardware for us to test, experiment, program, and hack all the time. I've never even really used my palm so I wasn't too excited that a smart phone was a must-have for me... until my cell phone got washed in my pants pocket this weekend. Suddenly, I am very interested in getting a new phone any...

MSN Desktop Search - Suggestions for the Development Team

I love and hate the MSN Desktop Search Tool. The search stuff is great; however, the ability to use this as a quazi-command-line or run box is what really wets my whistle. As much as I like it, the fact that it doesn't run completely like the run command is painful! I was recently whining about this in the hive and gave this example: For example, this will open a command box(dos-prompt) =cmd However, this will not open the display properties... ="rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL desk.cpl,,0"...

I question my faith... Torrent for OSX -> Intel Version

Since grade school, I have not liked Apple computer systems. Over the last few years, I have been forced into conditions where I had to learn Apple systems... and I still wasn't impressed. OSX is better, but nothing that would make me want to switch platforms. Why then am I so anxious to try to install OSX on some of the intel boxes in my test network? I do not typically go torrent hunting... but for some reason, I would just love to see OSX running one of my previous microsoft boxes. Would I use...

Response to Shaggy re MSN Desktop Search

I appreciate Shaggy mentioning one of my tutorials on his blog today. I attempted to leave a comment on his blog, but I could never get it to post. He was talking about changing the msn search to default to google. Since I could not leave it there, here was my response: Thanks for the mention. Google is still winning the search engine war. Here's the exact link to changing the default search engine in the MSN Desktop Search: http://www.tech-recipes.com... You guys probably won't...

MSN Desktop Search: Hacking, Skinning, and Combining

I have always been a command prompt kinda guy. Since XP has been out, I have used the address toolbar as a make-shift desktop RUN box. For the most part it worked very well. However, the ability for MSN Desktop Search to do shortcuts has really floored me. For the most part, you can also treat it as a run box by prefacing your command with an = sign. Web pages are tougher, however, and often require surrounding quotation marks. Some commands are not perfectly smooth either. Typing my computer in...

"Hello World" with Great Thanks

I am addicted to tutorials, tweaks, recipes, howtos--whatever you want to call them. I can't learn enough new skills and tricks. A whore I am. I typically pass on the information I find to friends and family through email; however, it is obvious that a blog is the better media for such communications. While I am often happy learning new tricks in my specialized computer life, I enjoy sharing more general information. Analogy warning -- I would love to learn how to do surgery; however, learning how...
