Windows CE: Newsgroups Shutdown
As of June 1, 2010 many of the Windows CE newsgroups have been shut down by Microsoft, and the rest will be shut down by October 1, 2010. This is part of an overall Microsoft strategy to move community from newsgroups to web based forums. The newsgroups have been indexed by Google, so the existing content can and should be searched for answers using http://groups.google.com/ad... Windows Embedded CE DiskPrep PowerToy
Kurt Kennett from Microsoft has offered up a handy new tool. This tool is useful for creating a boot disk for x86 Windows CE systems that use the BIOSLoader. This is especially useful for creating disks with formats other than FAT16, which are fairly easy to create. I am letting you know about this new tool, but I have to be honest in telling you that I haven’t used it myself because it is for Windows Vista and Windows 7 – which I don’t have available right now. Windows CE: 7.0 Announced
Yesterday at the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) Boston, Kevin Dallas the General Manager of Windows Embedded at Microsoft announced that there will be a major release of Windows Embedded CE 7.0 in Q2 2010. Well, that is entirely accurate; the release will be named Windows Embedded Compact 7.0. That is right, the name is changing from CE to Compact. Windows CE: Soon to be Available – 6.0 R3
Yesterday at the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) Boston, Kevin Dallas the General Manager of Windows Embedded at Microsoft announced that there will be a Windows CE 6.0 R3 release available within a month. The engineers tell me that the work is complete, now it is just a matter of getting it ready for us to download. The goal of the R3 release seems to be centered on usability. Embedded News: Intel to buy WindRiver
Intel is buying WindRiver. With the introduction of the Atom processor Intel is staying in the embedded market and needs to support a Linux release that takes advantage of the low power features of the chip.
