Windows Compact: Discussion Forums

I monitor some Windows Compact (the new name for Windows CE) Forums for a few reasons:

I learn a lot from others working on Windows CE, so many of you are running into the same issues that I run into. Sometimes you run into them before I do, other times I have already run into the issue.
I learn a lot from answering questions. You might be surprised to find that sometimes I don't already know the answer, so I do some investigation to get the answer. Sometimes I am wrong, or there is a better way, with my answer, and there is always someone to point that out.
I get satisfaction from helping others by answering their questions

I monitor the following Forums:

Windows Embedded Compact Managed Application Development which discusses C# and VB .NET managed application development
Windows Embedded Compact Native Application Development is a forum for discussing C/C++ application development
Windows Embedded Compact Platform Development a forum for discussing issues related to use of Platform Builder for Windows Compact OS development

I use Internet Explorer to monitor and answer questions. Windows Embedded Compact Category is a page which lists all three of the Windows Compact forums.

Thanks your blog, that help me a lots.

I hope you could blog some debugging topic more. How and What is "Exception statement" when an application run into wall, for example,

Exception 'Raised Exception' (-1): Thread-Id=09c30012(pth=8c953b24), Proc-Id=00400002(pprc=81e5f800) 'NK.EXE', VM-active=09c20016(pprc=8c7bb550) 'JidaGui.exe'
PC=c0033bba(k.coredll.dll+0x00013bba) RA=c0033c0a(k.coredll.dll+0x00013c0a) SP=e723ef30, BVA=ffffffff

How can we use this information to find out where the code cause it?

I want to join this forum but not finding any registration page.
I am very new to windows CE development. I have work experiance of around 10 years in .Net.
I have recently purchased DevKit8000 for learning purpose & want to user com port (serial port) but not able to find the solution can you please help me.

# Running an Executable automatically after OS boots up

i already linked my exe to NK as well as adding information to project.reg just like
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\init]
"Launch50"="MyApp.exe"
"Depend50"= hex:14,00,1e,00
Its shows error message 50 not found.
& this exe stored at my CF card at location of C:\DATA\MyApp.exe How can i resolved this issue.

Hi,
Thank you for this Blog.
I facing problem while building the platform in debug mode.
Before explain the problem let me tell you my understanding: - When we build the platform for the debug image, the 1st step is debug mode will copy all the driver and kernel related DLLs and EXEs to the target platform; then, the DLLs and EXEs will be copied to the release directory along with other files and "make run time image" will make the Runtime image (NK.bin).
My settings:-
I have selected form Build OS menu -> set active configuration as -> debug.
Copy files to release directory is selected and make runtime image after the build is also selected.
Now the problem is: - When I’m doing “build and sysgen” the debug DLLs and EXEs is NOT getting generated in “PLATFORM” -> “Target”. So, its failing to copy the files to the “release directory (which is already selected)”.Hence Error : - Not able to find “kern.exe” in the directory.
Can you please advice where I’m going wrong? Do I need to set any environment variable or do any other steps? If, I have to set Environment variable, how should I set this??
Note : Release build is working fine. I’m able to get release NK.Bin.

Hi,
I want to ask a quetion related to Application debugging:-
That is,
If i have drivers and kernel build in release mode (that is ,I will copy the files from "C:\WINCE500\PLATFORM\folder\target\ARMV4I\retail" to "C:\WINCE500\PLATFORM\folder\target\ARMV4I\debug") and wice application build in debug mode to make "nk.bin"; then can i debug my application?
