The Stumblings of an IT Manager ...2 days before we go live and you want WHAT....?

Ever get involved (by choice or assignment) that becomes a en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_march_(software_development)death march project, and the timetable just draws on and on and on?  There are many drawbacks to this: lost time with family, lost sleep, weight gains, etc; but one of the things that often gets overlooked is the impact that a project like this has on your development as a developer.   Coming off of a project like this gives you a couple of seconds to start researching the tech that you may or may not have read, but definately did not have the time to play around with and learn.  It can be a painful process, I know.  I am in the middle of learning some patterns that I would love to already be familar with, but am not.  But thats how things go.
