Okay, Mr. SharePoint Architect. You've been asked to lead your developers to SharePoint glory, and you're ready to whip out your MSDN DVDs, and stand up a brand spankin'-new MOSS farm. You know the drill, too - you've done this 10 or 20 times, so it's no sweat. Right? Well, it isn't much of a sweat if the client wants a 100% vanilla, no-frills, no-customization MOSS instance. Hey everyone, I've been heads-down in MOSS architecture documentation for the past week. So, in the next few weeks, I'll be publishing a series called, "How to Grow a MOSS Farm." Appropriate name, eh? I think so. At any rate, much is to be said here, and there's more ways to stand up a MOSS farm than there are ways to skin a cat, so I plan on walking you through the things that I always consider when building a farm. My intent is for this series to serve as a starting point for those who need help...

Here's a little gem I came across yesterday. The Problem I restored a site backup yesterday to find that the scope drop-down that lives in the <SPSWC:SearchBoxEx> on my master page had vanished. And the weird thing was that where it was supposed to be, the words “All Sites” decided to appear. This made no sense, as I distinctly remember removing the “All Sites” scope weeks ago. Peachy.
